Animal protection group starts in Anguilla

ANGUILLA—The first meeting of what is to become an animal protection society was described as very successful with much enthusiasm from those present. Veterinarian, Patrick Vanterpool, veterinary assistant Amy Williams together with Christine Carty called together the first meeting on Thursday September 14 to discover the amount of support for such a group. There was a great amount of interest shown and it was decided that there is a great need in Anguilla, particularly in educating the public on the care of animals.

The group will be meeting again on September 28 when proposals for a name will be put forward. A committee was elected with Patrick Vanterpool as President, Kimberley Coulter as vice president, Christine Carty, secretary, Graham Crabtree, treasurer and Gitte Bayer in charge of public relations.

Education will be one of the primary plans especially in regard to neutering and spaying of animals so that unwanted young do not suffer. The group will also help to find homes for stray animals and will be raising funds to look after animals while this is done. They will be ensuring that people understand the conditions that pets should be kept under so that all animals have a good quality of life.

A group of animal lovers has come together to form an association for the protection of animals on the island. The first meeting was held last week at the instigation of Veterinarian, Patrick Vanterpool, veterinary assistant Amy Williams and Christine Carty. Some twenty persons were in attendance and there was much enthusiasm for forming such a group. It was decided that there is a great need in Anguilla to protect animals and in educating the public on the care of animals.

A committee was elected with Patrick Vanterpool as President, Kimberley Coulter as vice president, Christine Carty, secretary, Graham Crabtree, treasurer and Gitte Bayer in charge of public relations. The group will be meeting again on September 28 when proposals and suggestions for a name will be put forward by all the members.
