Helping AARF
We are often asked by island visitors and AARF supporters what they can do to help.
Many very generous donors have given AARF wonderful gifts over the years. Sometimes we receive gifts of cash (all of which goes directly to the welfare of our animals), but many times we get gifts of items that just can't be found here on Anguilla. Or they are hard to find, run out often, and, most of all are expensive when we can find them.
Any and all gifts given to us are treasured. Some are used in the shelter on a day to day basis when we take in new guests (examples are food, vaccinations and medical treatment), some are made available to people who adopt. If we can sell items, we do at a very reasonable cost; that raises much needed funds to meet our annual budget.
Donations
AARF is 100% volunteer driven, so all donations go straight into our programs for our animals. If you would like to donate, please send it to our Treasurer:
- AARF
- P.O. Box RI–4228
- Anguilla, BWI AI–2640
Or come by the shelter or any event if you are on Anguilla.
If you would like to earmark your donation towards a particular program or fund, please let us know!
Wish List
Some items we've received and always love to get are:
- Soft carriers — needed for people adopting small animals to take home in the airplane cabin
- Crates — for those talking larger pets home in the cargo hold
- Food (Puppy/Kitten/Adult Dog/Adult Cat) — to feed our shelter animals and for our feral cat program
- Litter for our kittens/cats
- Collars and leashes
- Towels (used are fine!) — to dry our puppies and kittens after their initial flea and tick baths
- Chew Toys
- Cat and kitten toys
- Newspapers — to line the kennels
- Paper Towels
- Garbage Bags
- Flea/Tick shampoo/spray
- Bleach/Cleaning supplies
- Surgical gloves for clean up
- Catnip
- Computer supplies such as paper (ask us for specifics)
The soft carriers cannot be found here, but are a critical need. They are used by adopters taking their pets to their new homes abroad. For local residents, collars and leashes are very hard to find on Anguilla. Chew toys can be sold to new adopters, vet clinic patients, or even for long–term AARF animals in the shelter.
To participate in the work of AARF you need only be as active as your time permits.
We are always looking for committed volunteers willing to work at the AARF Shelter facilitating adoptions and giving extra tender loving care to our shelter guests. Training is provided along with wet snouts to kiss and soft eyes to look into. Even an hour or two here and there helps.
You can assist in our Fundraising projects (Bingo night and our Yard Sale) or our other committees and subcommittees:
- Education
- Adoption
- Communications
- Membership
- Policies and Procedures
Additionally we need volunteers willing to transport rescued or surrendered/unwanted animals to the clinic.
Want to Volunteer?
If you are interested in volunteering to help at the Shelter, Adoptions, Education or Fundraising, please send us and email. Send our Volunteer Chairperson a pre-addressed email (if this does not work, please use our General Email address).
Become a Member
Memberships help with spay/neuter, vaccinations, rescue and adoption, medical care, shelter boarding expenses, and other needs of Anguilla’s cats, dogs, kittens, and puppies.
The monies we receive from membership dues and other fundraising activities are vital. As an all-volunteer organization, 100% of the proceeds go directly to our animal welfare programs.
Becoming a member is easy. Just fill out our membership form and mail it in. Or drop by the shelter for a form.
Please also join our low volume, announce–only (and low volume) aarfupdate email list and consider joining us on Facebook.
Foster Care Volunteers
At times, we need foster homes for emergency situations in which an animal (usually a puppy or kitten) needs extra attention such as socializing. Your job in this case is to provide a secure, escape–proof place for the animal, and to spend lots of time holding, petting and providing love!
